Last of the slides.

I didn’t get them all, but hey.

So I ask the American commentators, please stop announcing that Landon Donovan is the “all-time U.S. leading goal scorer.” He is not. With 57 international goals, he’s not even in the Top Five.

The all-time U.S. leading goal scorer is Abby Wambach, with 167 goals, followed by Mia Hamm (158), Kristine Lilly (130), Michelle Akers (105) and Tiffeny Milbrett (100). In fact, Abby Wambach is the all-time leading goal scorer in the world, among all soccer players, male or female.

World Cup Soccer Stats Erase The Sport’s Most Dominant Players: Women (via cypher2)

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if soccer/football became the first sport to go co-ed at the professional level. There really isn’t any reason it couldn’t be. It’s one of the only sports where the men and the women are about the same size and the violence level is pretty much dead even in their separate leagues as it is now.  When I still played all of the best players on my team also played on a regional competitive co-ed team that was beastial. Men and women routinely play on the same team at the organized informal level all the time. I think it actually improves the game because the teams are well rounded. The usual differences people trot out to explain why men and women shouldn’t play together usually just mean that team members can do their specific job better or the game is more interesting to watch because the competitors are using different tactics. IDK, if USA Soccer is ever looking to organize a forward thinking international invitational event that people would want to watch and the US stands a good chance of actually winning, an all-star co-ed match would be a fantastic idea.

The arm folding intros for the World Cup always keep me entertained. Enjoy the best one, and some of the worst ones.

I always find these intros mesmerizing. Top left is the best ever.

People have offered many potential explanations for this discrepancy, but this ad highlights the importance of the social cues that push girls away from math and science in their earliest childhood years.

Watch the powerful Verizon advertisement to really understand what a little girl hears when you tell her she’s pretty.
